Plaster, Kitchens and Stuff
and 16 November 02 Update

The plaster people have started.  We have two crews -- two brothers and their two sons. Each crew is doing a separate house.  Each house will take about two weeks to complete.

They do all the make-ready work -- filling in holes, chipping away concrete runs, etc.  But what a mess they leave on the floor.

The labor cost is $25 pesos (USD $2.50) per square meter which adds up to about USD $1,000 per house plus the cost of the plaster.

The plasterer's labor cost is based on the gross area of the walls and ceiling; no deduction is made for the areas of windows and doors.  The rational is that the labor involved in making the neat square returns around doors and windows is equal to or greater than the labor of a flat wall.  After watching the work, I agree.  It is a fair way to charge.

It sure looks nice with all the ugly concrete and brick work covered up.

This is the brick shell for the kitchen base cabinets. The top will be tile. Wooden cabinets and drawers will be inserted under the concrete tops.

My original plan called for a space of 3'- 6" between the wall unit and the island, but the ladies wanted a space large enough for 3 or 4 to work for large parties, so now the spacing is 5'- 6"

The stove goes in front of the window, which allows the A/C to blow the cooking heat out the window.

Air conditioning work continues in the north house.

The junior cleaning crew -- good enthusiasm but short attention span.  They're still young enough to think it's great fun to work on their houses.
