Clafouti French Restaurant

Independencia 3699, Torreón

For our November lunch  party, my students and I visited a new restaurant in Torreón. Clafouti is a French bistro-style restaurant and bakery.

The bakery section offers several kinds of bread, rolls and pastries. All the bread and desserts on the restaurant menu come the bakery.

In addition to very good food at reasonable prices, Clafouti has soma unusual features

All the waiters are college students, and they all speak English.

The owner, JJ, speaks English, French and his native Spanish.

There is a children's outdoor play area which includes pairs of baby sitters to watch over the children while mom and pop enjoy a peaceful meal.

JJ and young daughter.

The kitchen is open to the dining room. There  is also an outdoor seating area.

Our waiter, Carlos

We asked JJ to order our food to showcase his house specialties.

We began with toasted, freshly baked bread with three spreads including a tasty pâté de foie gras

Each of us had an individual French onion soup made with two kinds of cheese.  Damn good!
A tossed greens salad followed.

This bean casserole was the best I have ever eaten. It included a chicken drum stick and a French sausage. We cleaned the bowl.

In addition to the dishes shown here, we had a couple that are not pictured, a fine salad and various desserts and after dinner coffees.

The tab, including tip, was $800 pesos, or about $15 dollars for each of us.  Good food at very reasonable prices.

Grilled salmon smothered with roasted cherry tomatoes and a variety of julienned veggies along wiith a side of new potatoes.  .

Mushrooms and various veggie atop a thick slice of toasted French bread covered with melted cheese and a side of greens.  Good!
